Jnana yoga, also known as the jnana marga (jñāna mārga), is one of the four classical paths (margas) for moksha (liberation) in Hinduism, which emphasizes the "path of knowledge", also known as the "path of self-realization".The path of Jnana yoga was promulgated by Adi Shankaracharya, an Indian philosopher who consolidated the doctrine of Advaita Vedanta around 700 CE. His commentaries on Vedic texts such as the Upanishads and Bhagavad Gita established Jnana yoga as a prominent means of self-realization. In Jnana yoga, the mind is used to inquire into its own nature and to transcend the mind's identification with its thoughts and ego. Jnana Yoga utilizes a single-point meditation on a single question of self-inquiry to remove the veils of illusion created by our concepts, world views, and perceptions. This practice allows to realize the temporary and illusionary nature of 'maya' and to see the oneness of all things. Jnana yoga is the yoga of wisdom and encourages people to study the ancient scriptures such as The Upanishads.
