Therapeutic Cancer Yoga

There's no one type of yoga or yoga pose that's best for people with cancer. But research suggests that less strenuous types can help with some side effects of treatment. These include gentle hatha yoga and restorative yoga. Yogic asanas that make you breathe harder, or those that make your muscles stronger help as a yogic therapy. A study published in 2021 found that yogic exercises may help halt or slow the growth of tumors. The study finds exercise can lower a person's risk of 13 types of cancer – some with more than a 20% lower risk – including colon, breast, endometrial, esophageal, liver, lung, stomach, kidney, head and neck, rectal and bladder cancers. Therapeutic cancer yoga is defined as the application of yoga postures and practice to the treatment of various types of cancers and involves instruction in yogic practices and teachings to prevent, reduce or alleviate structural, physiological, emotional and spiritual pain, suffering or limitations.
